Hagins-Fewell
The Hagins-Fewell neighborhood was built around the Arcade Mill, a former textile mill, more than a century ago. Once a small village of mill employees, this neighborhood is now home to more than 1,100 residents. The Arcade Mill has been demolished in recent years, with the exception of one smoke stack. Environmental clean-up efforts are nearing completion on this site, and redevelopment opportunities are currently being explored.
Highland Park
The Highland Park neighborhood was formerly a mill village for employees of the Highland Park Mill. After the mill closed, the site was abandoned for a number of years. Recently, it was renovated and converted into a senior living center with more than 100 senior housing units. This redevelopment project restored the old, abandoned mill to its former status as a vibrant community asset. Additional plans for Highland Park include improvements to its main thoroughfares, White and Jones Streets, which will serve as a catalyst for continuing redevelopment efforts in the Highland Park neighborhood.
East Town
East Town was Rock Hill’s first neighborhood. A historic district, it is situated just a few blocks from downtown Rock Hill. East Town includes the City’s first home, the Historic White Home, which is currently undergoing restoration efforts. It also includes the former Red Coach Inn property. The City of Rock Hill and the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation have been working together to prepare this site for redevelopment and to plan for its future. New construction on this site will enhance East Town, while still maintaining its historic integrity.
Saluda Corridor
The Saluda Corridor includes the businesses and residential communities on Saluda Street. As this area of town has fallen into disrepair over the years, it is in need of revitalization efforts. The City has committed to redeveloping this Corridor, as it is Rock Hill’s gateway to the south. To date, utilities on Saluda Street have been buried; and improvements have been made to sidewalks and landscaping. The City is presently engaged in ongoing efforts to continue strengthening the Saluda Corridor by attracting new economic investment and affordable housing opportunities to this part of Rock Hill. |
